Choose the original Mobile Fidelity inner sleeves when the record needs a clean replacement inner and you want the standard paper-supported HDPE design. The heavier 120gsm edition is a separate option for someone who values additional structure. Neither replaces an outer sleeve around the album jacket, a record-cleaning process or suitable storage conditions.

Original and Heavyweight are different packs
Mobile Fidelity’s original product page describes three-ply construction with a paper layer between HDPE sheets and a translucent HDPE front. The original is supplied in packs of 50 sleeves.
The Heavyweight reference explicitly compares its 120gsm construction with the original’s 80gsm. It describes increased rigidity and shape retention. That is the manufacturer’s explanation for the upgrade, not our measured durability result.

The arithmetic 120 ÷ 80 = 1.5 compares the stated gsm figures. It does not prove a sleeve is 50% thicker, prevents 50% more scratches or lasts 50% longer. Do not translate a material-weight label into an invented protection score.

Disc protection and jacket protection are separate jobs
An inner sleeve goes around the playable disc inside its jacket. An outer sleeve goes around the jacket or complete album package. Buying the MoFi inner pack will not give a worn gatefold a new outer cover or protect its corners during shipment.
The Library of Congress handling and storage guidance recommends HDPE replacement sleeves for grooved discs, names the Mobile Fidelity Original Master Sleeve as an example, and advises handling discs by their edges and label areas. That supports the material and handling choice. It is not an endorsement of a current Amazon seller or a guarantee for every disc condition.
Preserve an original printed inner with lyrics, artwork or edition information separately when moving the disc into a replacement. Do not force two bulky inners into a tight jacket merely to keep them together. Check the actual fit and retain collectible inserts in a suitable arrangement.

Count the records before buying 50-packs
Count discs requiring a replacement, not album jackets. A double LP normally needs two inners, while an album whose clean existing inner you retain may need none. Singles and unusual formats need their own size check.
Our purchase formula is packs = replacement discs ÷ 50, rounded up to a whole pack. For example, 72 single-disc albums plus 25 double-disc albums produce 72 + (25 × 2) = 122 discs. Three 50-packs supply 150 sleeves, leaving 28 spares. These are illustrative collection inputs, not a survey of buyer behavior.
Compare delivered pack price divided by 50 for the same original version. Then compare the entire required basket. A bulk listing with another brand, outer sleeves or a different quantity is not a lower unit price for this exact product.
It is reasonable to begin with one pack when jacket fit and handling preference are uncertain. Check representative albums before committing to a collection-wide replacement. Neither this review nor the brand’s description establishes compatibility with every tight or unusual jacket.
Keep the mixed construction out of a wet-cleaning routine
MoFi describes paper as part of these sleeves. Do not treat the product as an all-plastic bag suitable for soaking or an improvised chemical wipe. Sleeve replacement and record cleaning are different decisions; a clean new inner does not remove contamination already on a disc.
